Job Summary
Mariana Minerals is seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to own critical plant data domains end-to-end and build the data infrastructure that supports autonomous mineral refining operations. This role focuses on industrial data pipelines, schema design, cloud data platforms, time-series data, observability, lineage, and the data architecture used by machine learning systems and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own plant data domains end-to-end, including schema design, orchestration, reliability, and downstream data contracts.
  • Design and evolve data pipelines that ingest information from industrial sensors, laboratory systems, historians, imagery, and other operational sources.
  • Transform raw industrial data into reliable, queryable, and model-ready datasets.
  • Model time-series and analytical plant data for human analysis and machine learning workloads.
  • Support machine learning training, validation, and monitoring through reliable data architecture.
  • Own data quality, observability, and lineage across assigned domains.
  • Build and maintain pipelines capable of handling noisy and non-stationary industrial data.
  • Design data contracts used by downstream engineering and machine learning teams.
  • Partner with Machine Learning Engineers to build the training and monitoring layers supporting production ML systems.
  • Work directly with process engineers and operations teams to understand industrial data sources and requirements.
  • Mentor earlier-career engineers and help establish data engineering best practices.
  • Support Mariana Minerals’ PlantOS platform and autonomous mineral processing systems.

Qualifications

  • Four to eight or more years of experience in data engineering or a closely related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Deep experience designing database and data warehouse schemas.
  • Experience working with time-series and/or analytical datasets.
  • Proven experience building reliable and orchestrated data pipelines.
  • Experience operating cloud-based data systems using containers and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with data quality, observability, and lineage.
  • Ability to work with noisy and imperfect real-world data sources.
  • Experience working with sensor data, industrial systems, or data historians is highly relevant.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-ambiguity environments.
  • Strong collaboration skills when working with process engineers, ML engineers, and operations teams.
  • Experience supporting machine learning systems, including training datasets, feature pipelines, or model monitoring, is a plus.
  • Experience with industrial, sensor, or historian data is a plus.
