Job Summary
Mariana Minerals is seeking an Engineering Manager, MarianaOS to build and lead a team of software engineers developing the operating system used to engineer, construct, and operate the company’s mines and mineral processing facilities. The role combines engineering leadership, people management, technical engagement, delivery ownership, and the application of software, automation, data systems, LLMs, and agentic tooling across mining and industrial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of software engineers developing MarianaOS.
  • Own 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, career development, and compensation input for engineering team members.
  • Manage the hiring process from sourcing and interviewing through closing and onboarding.
  • Shape the team’s mix of technical skills, seniority, and ownership as the organization grows.
  • Deliver predictably against engineering roadmap commitments.
  • Partner with Product to communicate technical feasibility, delivery timelines, tradeoffs, risks, and reliability impacts.
  • Create the conditions for engineers to ship quickly and iterate based on feedback from mining, construction, engineering, and plant operations teams.
  • Break down ambiguous technical problems, sequence work, and remove blockers.
  • Partner with Tech Leads and senior engineers on technical direction and architecture.
  • Remain technically engaged and contribute hands-on when appropriate.
  • Develop engineering performance metrics and systems for understanding delivery, bottlenecks, team health, and process effectiveness.
  • Explore the use of agents and automation to improve engineering management workflows, surface risks, synthesize project context, and increase team velocity.
  • Develop engineers into larger scopes of responsibility and ownership.
  • Address morale, team conflict, and organizational risks early.
  • Reduce critical dependencies on individual team members.
  • Establish effective engineering review, documentation, and ownership practices.

Qualifications

  • Three to five or more years of direct software engineering management experience.
  • Eight or more years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience with performance management, career development, and hiring.
  • Strong technical depth and ability to evaluate engineering designs and implementation decisions.
  • Track record of leading teams that deliver predictably against deadlines and commitments.
  • Demonstrated success developing engineers through promotions, expanded scope, and increased ownership.
  • Strong experience translating between non-technical stakeholders and engineering teams.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical constraints, tradeoffs, and delivery risks.
  • Experience bringing structure to ambiguous and fast-moving technical problems.
  • Strong bias toward shipping, iteration, and learning from real-world feedback.
  • Startup experience in a rapidly scaling organization is helpful but not required.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, mining, or capital projects is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, LLMs, or agentic tooling is highly relevant to the team’s technology stack.
