Job Summary
Nevada Gold Mines is seeking an Underground Ventilation & Infrastructure Engineer II to support Goldstrike Underground operations in Elko, Nevada.
This role is responsible for supporting the design, planning, review, monitoring, and installation of underground infrastructure systems, including ventilation, paste backfill, materials handling, water, compressed air, discharge, power, communications, and other critical underground utility networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, review, and monitor the underground ventilation network using Deswik, Ventsim, underground inspections, and ventilation surveys
- Review existing underground infrastructure for age, functionality, and maintenance requirements through mapping and testing
- Develop and maintain infrastructure standards based on equipment specifications, use, and development life
- Develop and maintain infrastructure audits and maintenance schedules
- Collaborate with Fixed Maintenance to monitor installed infrastructure
- Review and coordinate requirements for proposed underground infrastructure
- Assess mass balance, impacts, and shortfalls based on medium- and long-term mine plans
- Communicate with stakeholders to ensure objectives are met and outcomes are delivered
- Ensure plans, budgets, and schedules are sufficiently developed
- Apply management systems and processes to meet deadlines and budget constraints
- Support safe and efficient underground mine infrastructure planning and execution
- Seek development opportunities that support role growth and technical capability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required
- 2-3 years of industry experience preferred
- Experience with ventilation and/or paste backfill preferred
- Basic knowledge of underground mine infrastructure systems including air, water, discharge, power, electrical, and communications infrastructure
- Understanding of mine infrastructure requirements including air, water, power, discharge, ventilation, and refuge systems
- Exposure to Deswik and Ventsim considered advantageous
- Understanding of engineering theories and principles
- Understanding of mining regulations
- Strong presentation and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate ideas and recommendations clearly across all levels of the organization
- Strong written communication skills
- Excellent time and productivity management skills
- Proven ability to perform work safely and efficiently
Physical Requirements
- Work within underground mining environments
- Conduct underground inspections, ventilation surveys, mapping, and infrastructure reviews
- Follow applicable safety, engineering, and mining regulatory requirements
- Support field-based infrastructure monitoring and project coordination
