Job Summary
SRK Consulting is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to support hydrologic and hydraulic engineering projects for the mining industry across North America and international markets.
This role focuses on surface water management, mine water systems, hydrologic analysis, hydraulic modeling, civil design, permitting support, project management, mentoring junior staff, and technical delivery for mining-related water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult on mining-related water resources projects in North America and internationally
- Support hydrologic and hydraulic engineering assignments related to the mining industry
- Manage performance of surface water control facility designs
- Perform hydrologic analysis for peak flow determination and hydraulic analysis of flood control measures
- Lead and direct staff engineers to perform project work
- Prepare proposals and support project management, execution, and technical reporting
- Develop detailed engineering plan sets
- Perform Civil 3D grading and design for heap leach pad facilities, tailings impoundments, and roadways as needed
- Conduct mine water management system analysis using water balance modeling
- Perform hydrometeorological analysis and hydraulic design of pressure flow pipelines
- Support tailings facility dam breach and inundation studies
- Guide and mentor junior staff
- Develop and maintain client relationships
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada preferred, or willingness to obtain reciprocity in Nevada
- At least 10 years of professional experience
- Experience with site plan design and Civil 3D grading
- Experience with facility layout and optimization, including volumetric calculations for large earth or rock facilities
- Experience with rainfall-runoff modeling using HEC-HMS, HEC-1, or similar tools
- Experience with hydraulic 1D modeling using HEC-RAS
- Experience with 2D modeling using HEC-RAS or FLO-2D preferred
- Experience with leachate control and collection system design
- Experience developing spreadsheet-based or model-based water balance models
- GoldSim experience preferred
- Experience with surface water impoundment design, including process ponds, water supply dams, or reservoirs
- Experience with statistical analysis of hydrological data
- Solid understanding of the regulatory framework for mine permitting in Nevada
- Experience with additional state permitting frameworks preferred
- Experience guiding and mentoring junior staff
- Track record of developing and maintaining client relationships in a team environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally for projects in North America and internationally
- Ability to complete site visits and field-related project work as required
- Ability to work in hybrid, office, project, and field environments as needed
