Job Summary
SRK Consulting is seeking a Geochemist to support geochemical studies related to the mining industry from its Reno, Nevada office.
This role focuses on mine waste studies, geochemical data analysis, mine site water quality predictions, field sampling, geochemical modeling, and technical reporting for mining environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the geochemistry team with mine waste studies
- Assist with analysis of large geochemical datasets and interpretation of geochemical data related to mining environments
- Assist with mine site water quality predictions using geochemical modeling software
- Conduct geochemical and environmental fieldwork
- Collect rock, soil, and water samples at mine sites
- Produce high-quality technical reports that communicate detailed geochemical information to non-specialists
- Perform administrative tasks including organizing project meetings and documentation
- Implement procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Support field testing applications as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Degree specializing in Geology or Geochemistry
- Higher degree involving environmental geochemistry and/or hydrogeochemistry preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of applicable experience
- Good understanding of geochemistry, geology, and mineralogy
- Knowledge of Great Basin mineral deposits preferred
- Experience analyzing large geochemical datasets, including quality control, data interpretation, and reporting
- Ability to conduct fieldwork on mine sites, including mapping and sampling of mine waste, soils, and waters
- General knowledge of mining-related environmental issues, regulations, and policies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience using geochemical modeling software such as PHREEQC, MINTEQA2, or Geochemist’s Workbench
- Excellent critical analysis skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, including report writing and verbal presentations
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic environment
- Willingness to travel and undertake overseas fieldwork
Physical Requirements
- Ability to undertake fieldwork on mine sites
- Ability to collect rock, soil, water, and mine waste samples in field environments
- Willingness to travel for domestic and overseas fieldwork as needed
