Job Summary
Equinox Gold is seeking an Environmental Technician to support environmental compliance activities at the Castle Mountain mine site.
This role supports fieldwork, sampling, monitoring, inspections, environmental equipment operation, documentation, and reporting to help ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and California-specific mining environmental regulations. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Key Responsibilities
- Collect environmental samples including soil, water, waste, and other materials
- Conduct inspections to monitor compliance with company and regulatory requirements
- Prepare field notes, records, and reports related to environmental observations and inspections
- Operate environmental field equipment and site equipment as needed
- Support maintenance and repairs related to environmental requirements
- Manage environmental data for compliance with regulatory and company objectives
- Promote awareness of environmental issues among employees
- Support obligations related to desert tortoise protection and other protected species
- Assist with hazardous waste management, inspections, and spill investigations
- Maintain documentation for inspections, spills, corrective actions, SOPs, policies, and forms
- Support sustainability initiatives including land restoration, water conservation, reclamation, and biodiversity protection
- Report environmental concerns to the supervisor
- Act in a responsible, professional, and safe manner at all times
Qualifications
- Experience in environmental, mining, or related fields required
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a mining/industrial-related field preferred
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Current MSHA Certification desired
- HAZWOPER and DOT certifications for waste inspections and disposals preferred
- Ability and interest in environmental fieldwork
- Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong reading comprehension skills for work-related documents
- Ability to work in remote and rugged environments
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at an active mine site, including open pit mining areas, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments
- Ability to work in desert climate conditions including heat, cold, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding
- Ability to work around mobile equipment, mechanical parts, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, chemicals, fuels, oils, and airborne particles
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and work on uneven terrain
- Manual dexterity and ability to operate tools, equipment, controls, and computer systems
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, and other task-specific PPE
