Job Summary
Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking an Environmental Engineer to provide environmental services for a gold mining operation and related facilities.
This role supports environmental compliance, permitting, monitoring, inspections, reporting, stakeholder communication, and environmental programs to ensure company activities meet local, state, and federal environmental regulations and licenses.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct all activities safely and in accordance with company safety regulations, rules, and policies
- Assist with the development and implementation of environmental objectives, processes, programs, and initiatives
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, licenses, and regulations
- Support monitoring, inspection, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements
- Conduct permitting activities to support operations, project goals, and timelines
- Coordinate with operational departments, submit applications, and support stakeholder engagement
- Conduct studies and research for permit applications, permit modifications, feasibility work, and problem solving
- Communicate environmental regulatory obligations and objectives to site personnel
- Communicate with regulatory agencies, government agencies, and professional associations
- Maintain positive stakeholder relationships to support compliance and information exchange
- Coordinate environmental projects, including contractor, technician, and consultant activities
- Monitor proposed environmental regulatory changes and assess potential impacts on operations and resources
- Report compliance or permitting issues that may affect the company
- Participate in short- and long-range planning activities to support departmental and company goals
- Provide environmental awareness training to site employees
- Promote positive attitudes, safe work practices, and adherence to safe work standards
- Lead by example and represent company values with professionalism
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline such as Geology, Biology, or Civil Engineering required
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental permitting or compliance
- Applied knowledge of relevant federal, state, and regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices
- Experience with systems or databases used to manage regulatory obligations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, regulators, and government representatives
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to explain environmental regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other departments
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and database management software
- Working experience in Washington may be preferred
- Availability for weekend, emergency response, and incident management call-out
- Valid driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an active mining, environmental, or production-related environment as needed
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment and follow safety protocols
- Ability to identify potential hazards and support preventive measures
- Ability to comply with company, health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Availability for emergency response and incident management call-out when required
