Job Summary
Newmont is seeking a Team Lead, Battle Mountain to lead the safe, compliant, and sustainable management of its Battle Mountain legacy site in San Luis, Colorado. This role oversees active water treatment plant operations and maintenance, environmental monitoring programs, site infrastructure, contractor performance, regulatory compliance, and community engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible safety leadership and promote a strong safety culture among employees, contractors, and consultants.
- Lead the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the site’s active water treatment plant and associated water-management infrastructure.
- Oversee treatment processes, routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, sampling, monitoring, and operational recordkeeping.
- Ensure site activities comply with environmental controls, discharge requirements, monitoring programs, permits, and regulatory obligations.
- Supervise routine site operations, maintenance activities, non-routine projects, and improvement initiatives.
- Manage site personnel, contractors, and consultants to deliver work safely and efficiently.
- Support annual operating and capital budget development and monitor site financial performance.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee routine and non-routine site activities, including plant shutdowns and maintenance programs.
- Assist in developing contractor and consultant scopes of work and contribute to vendor selection processes.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with regulators, community leaders, landowners, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve treatment reliability, operational effectiveness, compliance, and environmental performance.
- Support employee development and build team capability.
Qualifications
- Experience leading site operations, water treatment operations, environmental programs, maintenance activities, or related industrial field operations.
- Experience operating, maintaining, or supervising an active water treatment plant and associated systems.
- Knowledge of water treatment processes, water-management programs, process controls, sampling requirements, and environmental technologies.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements applicable to mining, industrial, or water treatment operations.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe work practices.
- Experience managing contractors, consultants, and field-based work activities.
- Ability to develop work plans, prioritize activities, allocate resources, and oversee safe execution.
- Experience planning preventative and corrective maintenance for treatment equipment and site infrastructure.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to supervise teams, provide direction, and support employee development.
- Strong problem-solving skills for operational, maintenance, and environmental challenges.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work across multiple disciplines and stakeholder groups.
Physical Requirements
- Based at Newmont’s Battle Mountain legacy site in San Luis, Colorado.
- Primarily field-based role involving active water treatment infrastructure, industrial equipment, outdoor conditions, and varying seasonal weather.
- Requires ongoing interaction with site personnel, contractors, consultants, regulators, community leaders, and regional leadership.
- Occasional travel to other legacy sites or regional offices may be required.
