Job Summary
Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking a Mine Geologist to support geological field data collection, drill core logging, and communication of geological information in an active underground mining production environment.
This role provides base data and geological interpretations used by geology and technical services teams to improve mine safety, efficiency, grade control, mine planning, and operational decision-making. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with mining operations to collect geological field data as part of the mining cycle
- Enter geological data and communicate information to mine operations, management, and technical services teams
- Inspect and guide drilling operations related to grade control and mine exploration
- Perform geological and geotechnical logging of rock cores
- Use mineral resource estimates, geological models, and drill core databases
- Guide mining activities by delineating ore and waste materials
- Collect geological samples and ensure shipment to the assay lab
- Assist in updating grade-control geology models
- Provide geological reports to mine operations and technical services teams to support safe mine design
- Work independently to solve non-standard geological problems using best practices
- Support continuous improvement across geology and operations
- Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and results-driven culture
- Follow safety, environmental, operating, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering required
- 3-5 years of related geology experience in the mining industry
- Underground mining experience preferred
- Proven field mapping experience
- Ability to compile, interpret, and analyze geological data
- Experience with geological software such as Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Deswik CAD/Map, AcQuire, or MS Access preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license required
- Authorization to work in the United States required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an active underground mining production environment
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times in production areas
- Ability to observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions
- Ability to follow operating procedures and comply with regulatory requirements
- Strong commitment to safe working practices and environmental requirements
