Job Summary
Equinox Gold is seeking a Field Technician to support exploration activities at the company’s southern California projects, including Mesquite and Castle Mountain.

Reporting to the Field Supervisor and Senior Geologist, this role supports drilling and field programs through drillhole layout, inspections, sample collection and management, warehouse organization, GPS surveys, and tool/equipment operation. The position is based at Castle Mountain Mine on an 8 days on / 6 days off schedule. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Key Responsibilities

  • Support drilling and field programs to ensure safe and efficient execution
  • Conduct safety and progress checks at RC and core drills
  • Stake out drillhole collars, sumps, and access roads
  • Insert T-posts and fence sumps
  • Ensure safe access and permit compliance at field sites
  • Collect drill samples from active and inactive mine sites, including core and RC chips
  • Lay out, wash, photograph, cut, sample, and move diamond drill core
  • Perform geotechnical logging of drill core, including recovery, hardness, joint condition rating, specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility, and other measurements
  • Conduct GPS surveys of drillhole collars and other field data
  • Download GPS data and notify geologists
  • Track samples for drill programs and exploration projects
  • Organize and label sample bags and insert QA/QC samples
  • Organize warehouse materials including core, RC chips, QA/QC samples, pulps, and field supplies
  • Deliver RC chips and pulps to geologists for further review
  • Communicate field progress to the Senior Geologist and exploration team
  • Support field crews and contractors during exploration activities
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools while practicing good housekeeping
  • Conduct work area and contractor inspections and report sub-standard conditions
  • Follow safety, environmental, and regulatory policies
  • Maintain and improve SOPs related to field technician responsibilities
  • Travel to projects within California and the western U.S. as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Exposure to exploration drilling and remote field work desirable
  • Experience with basic carpentry, power tools, telehandlers, and backhoes desirable
  • Ability to inspect and safely operate tools and equipment
  • Experience with GPS and compass navigation
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Class C driver’s license required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at an active mine site, including open pit mining areas, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments
  • Ability to work in desert climate conditions including heat, cold, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding
  • Ability to work near mobile equipment, moving mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, chemicals, fuels, oils, and airborne particles
  • Ability to work outdoors on uneven or rough terrain
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment
  • Manual dexterity and ability to operate tools, equipment, controls, and computer systems
  • Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, respiratory protection, and other task-specific PPE
