Job Summary
Equinox Gold is seeking a Drill Supervisor to support and lead exploration drilling activities at the company’s southern California projects, including Mesquite and Castle Mountain.
Reporting to the Director of Exploration, this role supervises RC and core drilling activities, leads field crews and contractors, supports drillhole planning, manages field supplies, and helps ensure safe and efficient execution of exploration programs. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Key Responsibilities
- Manage drilling and field programs to ensure safe and efficient execution
- Supervise and train field technicians and ensure SOPs are followed
- Conduct work area and contractor inspections and report sub-standard conditions
- Participate in safety and environmental audits
- Follow safety, environmental, and regulatory policies
- Collect and report drill metrics including penetration rates and costs
- Support and lead drillhole planning with the Exploration Manager and Director
- Stake out drillhole collars, sumps, and access roads
- Ensure safe access and permit compliance at field sites
- Collect drill samples from active and inactive mine sites, including core and RC chips
- Lay out, wash, photograph, cut, sample, and move diamond drill core
- Perform geotechnical logging of drill core, including recovery, hardness, joint condition rating, specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility, and other required measurements
- Conduct GPS surveys of drillhole collars and other field data
- Order and manage field supplies and consumables while tracking inventories
- Track samples for drill programs and exploration projects
- Organize warehouse materials including core, RC chips, QA/QC samples, pulps, and field supplies
- Manage field crews and contractors during exploration activities
- Maintain and repair equipment and tools while practicing good housekeeping
- Maintain and improve SOPs related to drilling and field responsibilities
- Travel to projects within California and the western U.S. as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 5+ years of leadership or foreman experience required
- Exposure to exploration drilling and remote field work
- Experience with basic carpentry, power tools, telehandlers, and backhoes
- Ability to inspect and safely operate tools and equipment
- Experience with GPS and compass navigation
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Valid Class C driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at an active mine site, including open pit mining areas, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments
- Ability to work in desert climate conditions including heat, cold, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding
- Ability to work near mobile equipment, moving mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, chemicals, fuels, oils, and airborne particles
- Ability to work outdoors on uneven or rough terrain
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment
- Manual dexterity and ability to operate tools, equipment, controls, and computer systems
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, respiratory protection, and other task-specific PPE
