Job Summary
Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Director North America Plant Engineering Projects to lead the development, governance, and execution of site-based sustaining capital projects across its North America mining portfolio. This role provides strategic oversight for project and portfolio management, capital deployment, project governance, AFE strategy, and performance management across sustaining capital initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full lifecycle management of sustaining capital projects across multiple North America sites.
  • Ensure project alignment with operational needs and long-term asset strategies.
  • Establish and enforce project governance frameworks.
  • Provide assurance of project scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Lead quarterly budget development and partner with finance to optimize capital allocation.
  • Oversee AFE strategy to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with business priorities.
  • Monitor project cost performance and establish KPIs and reporting.
  • Oversee early-stage scoping, feasibility, and execution planning.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to drive project alignment.
  • Serve as a key interface between site operations, plant engineering, and corporate leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Fifteen years of experience in engineering and/or project management, including sustaining capital project delivery.
  • Experience managing large-scale project portfolios preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and governance.
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial evaluation.
  • Experience with AFE development and approval processes.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires the selected candidate to be based in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Up to 75% travel is required, primarily domestic travel, with approximately 25% international travel.
  • Pre-employment drug testing may be required, as allowed by applicable laws.
