Job Summary
MP Materials is seeking a Director, Materials Management to lead warehouse operations, inventory optimization, material traceability, and materials management strategy at its Mountain Pass operation. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and reliable flow of raw materials, bulk reagents, engineered spares, and maintenance parts while driving warehouse automation, SAP/ERP optimization, LEAN practices, and cross-functional supply chain transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and implement policies and procedures for receiving, inventory management, storage, staging, and material delivery activities.
- Lead warehouse operations while maintaining strict safety, environmental, and hazardous material storage standards.
- Drive alignment across Site Leadership, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, EHS, and Finance.
- Resolve material bottlenecks and align supply chain strategies with site production plans.
- Ensure continuous, predictable, and traceable material flow to support plant uptime and operational reliability.
- Coordinate SOX compliance and financial controls activities to maintain inventory integrity.
- Develop materials management and inventory management strategies.
- Implement engineered spares programs, asset recovery programs, material transfer programs, consignment, and vendor-managed inventory opportunities.
- Lead warehouse automation and digital transformation initiatives to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Evaluate and deploy process automation, digitization tools, tracking systems, barcoding, dashboards, and related technologies.
- Develop and manage key performance indicators focused on stockout prevention, space utilization, receiving cycle times, and material processing performance.
- Partner with end users to improve reservations and work-order utilization.
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing materials management organization.
- Promote accountability, continuous improvement, operational discipline, and hands-on leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience in materials management, warehouse operations, or supply chain execution.
- Experience in heavy industrial, chemical processing, mining, or complex manufacturing environments required.
- Five or more years of direct experience with engineered spares and complex materials management programs integrated with plant maintenance and operations.
- Expert-level proficiency with SAP ERP and MRP systems.
- Advanced expertise in inventory optimization, ABC classification, safety stock modeling, demand planning, and financial valuation metrics.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams across engineering, operations, finance, maintenance, and supply chain.
- Ability to present strategic roadmaps to executive leadership.
- Experience evaluating and implementing warehouse automation solutions preferred.
- Experience managing large-scale supply chain transformation projects preferred.
- Knowledge of LEAN, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EHS, and HazMat requirements.
- Experience with SOX inventory compliance, internal controls, and financial audit readiness preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Work is performed at an open pit mine or manufacturing and chemical plant environment at approximately 4,700 feet elevation.
- May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wind.
- Work environments may include moving mechanical equipment, chemicals, electrical hazards, explosives, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Personal Protective Equipment is required in mine, manufacturing, outdoor, and plant environments.
- Must be able to pass a full-face respirator fit test and work in PPE Level C.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Role may require standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
