Job Summary
Kinross Gold is seeking a Mine Shift Supervisor to support safe and efficient underground development and production at Kettle River Operations. During the initial phase of the Curlew Basin Restart, this role serves as Kinross’s on-site representative overseeing contractor day-to-day development activities. As Kinross transitions into direct mine operation, the role will supervise Kinross production and development crews while driving safety, performance, and operational execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Provide daily approval of completed contractor activities to the Mine Superintendent.
- Coordinate activities between Kinross crews and contractor crews.
- Organize and lead Kinross crews to meet project plans, schedules, and goals.
- Conduct ground inspections and provide guidance on applicable ground support standards.
- Communicate daily objectives and priorities clearly to crews.
- Provide instructions and training in the proper use of equipment.
- Coordinate available resources and set operating priorities to achieve daily goals.
- Provide supervisory oversight of production cycles, development cycles, and mine services installations.
- Monitor mining equipment and tools for proper functioning and report maintenance needs.
- Track and document contractor delays.
- Review and provide input on contractor change order requests.
- Conduct mine inspections to ensure safety and quality standards are met by employees and contractors.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, material movements, safety incidents, and irregularities.
- Maintain adequate inventories of mine-related supplies.
- Plan and schedule daily activities more than seven days in advance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and other departments.
- Operate a company vehicle and other equipment as assigned.
- Ensure shift crews uphold Kinross Kettle River policies and procedures.
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with Mine Technical Services personnel.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of weekly and monthly forecasts.
- Develop and train employees in safe and efficient equipment operation standards.
- Communicate and coordinate verbally and digitally with the Mine Operations Center.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ten years of experience working in an underground mine.
- Five years of experience supervising a team.
- Thorough knowledge of underground mining practices and procedures.
- Ability to operate mining equipment at high standards and production rates.
- Ability to make decisions related to production and maintenance.
- Understanding of mine health and safety laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of underground mining methods, safety legislation, ground control, and equipment.
- Ability to supervise a team and work independently.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to coach, support, and develop crews.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to document and track shift performance.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements
- Work takes place in an underground mining production environment.
- Must be able to work in underground environments with exposure to noise, vibration, temperature extremes, and physical demands.
- Must wear personal protective equipment at all times while in the production environment.
- Must follow operating procedures and comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Must observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions.
- May be required to operate a company vehicle and other equipment as assigned.
