Job Summary
Kinross Gold is seeking an Operations Director to provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for safe, efficient, and productive operations at Kettle River Operations. Reporting to the General Manager, this role oversees site performance, resources, operational departments, planning, budgeting, continuous improvement, and initiatives that align with Kinross’ strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute short- and intermediate-term strategies that support operational growth and performance.
  • Lead the execution of long-term strategy across mine, processing, asset management, and geology departments.
  • Manage human, financial, and operational resources for site operations.
  • Set priorities and allocate resources to meet business goals.
  • Develop and implement business practices, policies, and systems that align with Kinross’ overall business strategy.
  • Oversee short- and long-term planning, capital and operating budgeting, engineering and cost studies, mine expansion, equipment selection, and acquisition.
  • Participate in joint venture partner initiatives for global procurement to reduce material and operating costs.
  • Oversee site performance metrics, operational plans, and cost forecasts.
  • Formulate annual operating and capital budgets consistent with Kinross’ financial guidelines and business planning process.
  • Prepare business cases and reports for strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Present recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders.
  • Act as a change agent and project sponsor for key operational initiatives.
  • Lead the Continuous Improvement program using tools and systems that support Kinross’ management operating philosophy.
  • Advise senior leaders on major operational challenges using professional advice, diagnostics, analysis, and consultant support.
  • Set performance targets and monitor overall performance of direct reports and operational departments.
  • Build team capabilities, identify succession needs, develop high-potential talent, and support key employees.
  • Promote health, safety, environmental, and sustainability practices across all operational activities.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mining Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical field required.
  • Twelve or more years of related work experience.
  • Experience leading teams within the mining industry desired.
  • Detailed knowledge of all phases of mining.
  • Strong understanding of the integration between mining, milling, processing, and maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge and experience developing policies and procedures related to safety, operations, and organizational development.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees and management at all levels.
  • Proven leadership and decision-making capabilities in a complex mining environment.
  • Superior leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Advanced operational knowledge of the mining industry.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements

  • Work takes place in a mining production environment.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment at all times while in the production environment.
  • Must follow operating procedures and comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Must observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions.
