Job Summary
Climax Molybdenum, a Freeport-McMoRan company, is seeking a Senior Planner – Mine Maintenance to oversee the division planning function at its Climax operations in Colorado. This role supports maintenance planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, materials management, SAP processes, and planning team supervision for mine maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the division planning function, including direct supervision of planning staff.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with front-line supervisors regarding planning responsibilities.
  • Ensure effective job planning, scheduling, communication, preparation, staging, budgeting, forecasting, runtime forecasting, warehouse storage levels, and reporting.
  • Set meaningful objectives for division planners and monitor planning process quality through data measurement.
  • Support operational excellence across maintenance activities.
  • Manage planning and scheduling processes for daily, short-term, and long-range maintenance work.
  • Ensure quality control in the application of planning processes and procedures.
  • Support preparation, communication, facilitation of department activities, daily transactions, and post-job follow-up.
  • Drive runtime forecasting execution, including monthly planning, stakeholder reconciliation, and success-against-plan analysis.
  • Prepare division planning budget recommendations for the Superintendent.
  • Ensure budget, forecast costs, parts availability, and materials management processes meet expectations.
  • Spend time in the field reviewing job preparation, execution, and follow-up.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and eight years of progressive maintenance experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial operations, including five years in a leadership or supervisory role; or
  • Associate degree in a technical field and six years of related field maintenance experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial operations, including three years in a leadership or supervisory role; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field and four years of progressive maintenance experience in mining, manufacturing, or industrial operations, including supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong mentoring capabilities in leadership, professionalism, organization, and technical skills.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with SAP, including maintenance, operations, statistics, general, and related modules, tables, and files.
  • Familiarity with software related to maintenance functions and systems.
  • Experience resolving day-to-day questions and problems related to equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience with budget preparation, monitoring, and administration.
  • Competency using Microsoft Office software.
  • Significant project organization experience.
  • Understanding of parts and materials management processes, including SAP parts inventory processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Work may be performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting with exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock risk, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • Regularly required to stand and sit, and may frequently climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see.
  • May occasionally lift moderately heavy objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when working in mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environments.
  • Travel may be required up to 20% of the time.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and ongoing random drug testing may be required, as allowed by applicable laws.
