Job Summary
Sawtooth Mining / North American Mining is seeking a Mining Equipment Mechanic to support the Thacker Pass Lithium Project in Orovada, Nevada.

This hands-on role is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding heavy-duty mining equipment to support safe, reliable, and productive mining operations. The Mining Equipment Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, repair major components, operate equipment for testing, and maintain accurate work records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, greasing, and scheduled component replacement
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions
  • Replace parts, repair components, and rebuild equipment as needed
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools
  • Read blueprints, service manuals, and parts lists to support repairs and rebuilds
  • Use work orders and requisitions to order parts and maintain equipment cost records
  • Advise when immediate equipment shutdown is required to minimize damage or prevent harmful operation
  • Fuel and lubricate equipment as needed
  • Operate equipment to diagnose problems and test equipment after repairs
  • Operate light vehicles to travel across the mine site
  • Maintain shop housekeeping to support a safe work environment
  • Ensure vehicles and tools are clean and properly maintained
  • Perform duties in accordance with MSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two years of maintenance experience or a technical degree required
  • Background in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment required
  • Ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals
  • Knowledge of engines, transmissions, drivetrains, pneumatic systems, hydraulic components, brakes, and air conditioning systems
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical malfunctions
  • Strong work ethic and effective communication skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts
  • Must pass required written and practical tests for the position

Physical Requirements

  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty mining equipment
  • Use hoists, hand tools, service manuals, and diagnostic methods during repair work
  • Operate equipment for troubleshooting and post-repair testing
  • Operate light vehicles across the mine site
  • Work rotating shifts and up to 12-hour shifts as required
  • Maintain safe housekeeping standards in shop and work areas
  • Follow MSHA, company safety, and environmental requirements
