Job Summary
Equinox Gold is seeking an Exploration Geologist to support resource growth and exploration activities at the company’s southern California projects, including Mesquite and Castle Mountain.
Reporting to the Senior Geologist, this role supports exploration programs, geological data collection and interpretation, drill program execution, mineral resource development, and target generation. The position is based at Castle Mountain Mine with travel to Western Mesquite Mines in Brawley, California, on an 8 days on / 6 days off schedule. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Key Responsibilities
- Log drill core and RC chips for structure, lithology, alteration, mineralization, and sample intervals
- Enter geological data into database management software
- Assist with sample tracking and sample management for drill programs and exploration projects
- Maintain QA/QC protocols for geological data input
- Support drilling and field programs to ensure safe and efficient execution
- Conduct safety and progress checks at RC and core drills
- Assist with data integration, geological interpretations, geological models, drill planning, and permitting
- Perform geological pit mapping, outcrop mapping, rock chip sampling, and soil sampling
- Assist with compilation and interpretation of geological maps and geochemical data
- Use mapping, drilling, 3D models, geophysics, and geochemistry to support target generation
- Support field crews and contractors during exploration activities
- Assist with weekly, monthly, and technical reports and presentations
- Communicate geological findings to senior geologists and management
- Support safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance
- Maintain and improve SOPs related to exploration responsibilities
- Travel to projects within California and the western U.S. as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology required
- Master’s degree in Geology desirable
- 0-3 years of experience in exploration and/or mine geology
- Experience working in remote or rotational operations is an asset
- Good understanding of geology and mineralization of western U.S. ore deposits
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Exposure to geological software such as Leapfrog, Vulcan, Acquire, Datamine, Micromine, MineSight, QGIS, or ArcGIS
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Valid Class C driver’s license required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at an active mine site, including open pit mining areas, processing facilities, leach pads, maintenance areas, and office environments
- Ability to work in desert climate conditions including heat, cold, wind, dust, and occasional precipitation or flash flooding
- Ability to work near mobile equipment, mechanical parts, blasting activities, noise, vibration, diesel exhaust, chemicals, fuels, oils, and airborne particles
- Ability to work outdoors on uneven or rough terrain
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and maintain situational awareness in an active mining environment
- Manual dexterity and ability to operate tools, equipment, controls, and computer systems
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, respiratory protection, and other task-specific PPE
