Job Summary
Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking a Senior Mine Geologist to support production geology, mine exploration, and geological drilling operations in an active underground mining production environment.

This role acts as a front-line supervisor, project manager, and technical leader for a team of mine geologists. The Senior Mine Geologist will oversee geological data systems, modeling, sampling procedures, drilling programs, and technical reporting to support safe, efficient, and value-driven mining outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as lead geologist for day-to-day production geology and mine exploration activities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain geological operating and sampling procedures
  • Manage active diamond core and RC drilling operations related to production geology and mine exploration programs
  • Prepare and present technical reports, geological models, and recommendations to support decision-making
  • Update short-range grade control mineral inventory and geological models
  • Design mine exploration and grade control drilling programs
  • Collect field data and integrate it into digital geological models
  • Assist with management of core shed activities and staffing
  • Manage assay lab submittals and data receipt into the geological database
  • Provide geological reports to mine operations in coordination with technical services teams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to geology team members
  • Support safe mine design decisions through geological data, reports, and operational recommendations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert influencing decisions that impact mine performance
  • Support continuous improvement across geology and operations
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and results-driven culture within the geology team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering required
  • 5-8 years of related geology experience within the mining industry
  • Underground mining experience required
  • Experience collecting geological field data, underground mapping, and sampling preferred
  • Previous managerial experience strongly preferred
  • Experience compiling, interpreting, and analyzing geological and assay data to support operational decisions
  • Experience managing geological drilling programs and contracts
  • Proficiency with geological software such as Seequent Leapfrog Geo, Maptek Vulcan, and Deswik CAD/Map
  • Experience with database management software such as AcQuire or Microsoft Access
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Leadership and mentoring ability with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements

  • Work within an active underground mining production environment
  • Wear personal protective equipment at all times while in the production environment
  • Follow operating procedures and comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions
