Job Summary
Newmont is seeking a Senior Metallurgist to coordinate and deliver metallurgical laboratory testwork that supports processing performance, project outcomes, operational improvement, innovation, and data-driven decision-making across mining and processing teams. This role supports laboratory test programs, technical reporting, pilot testing, plant trials, metallurgical data analysis, and collaboration with site operations, technical services, geology, and external laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute metallurgical laboratory test programs from scope development through reporting.
- Prepare test methods, analyze results, and deliver clear technical reports.
- Operate, maintain, and optimize laboratory equipment and workflows.
- Provide technical guidance and supervision for laboratory personnel and contractors.
- Support pilot testing, plant trials, and research into new reagents or processing methods.
- Collaborate with mining, processing, geology, technical services, site operations, and external laboratories to meet testing needs.
- Analyze metallurgical data and support the development of metallurgical balances.
- Support testwork design and data-driven decision-making for processing and project teams.
Qualifications
- Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- Postgraduate degree desirable.
- Strong understanding of metallurgical testwork, including sample preparation, comminution, hydrometallurgy, and mineral processing.
- Strong data processing skills to analyze metallurgical data, develop metallurgical balances, and support testwork design.
- Ability to communicate technical results clearly through reports and presentations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Safety-first mindset with knowledge of laboratory hazards and protocols.
- Ability to work in a collaborative technical team environment.
Physical Requirements
- Laboratory-based role within a collaborative technical team in Denver, Colorado.
- Regular interaction with site operations, technical services, and external partners.
- Occasional domestic and international travel may be required to support global processing operations.
- Must follow laboratory safety protocols and hazard controls.
