Job Summary
Climax Molybdenum, a Freeport-McMoRan company, is seeking a Metallurgist II to support metallurgical studies, process analysis, testing, and continuous improvement at its Climax operations in Colorado. This role focuses on metallurgical process evaluation, troubleshooting, testing protocols, vendor coordination, and recommendations to improve site performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in metallurgical studies, development, testing, and analysis of designs, processes, or procedures.
  • Report on metallurgical or process issues and recommend corrective actions to the Chief Metallurgist.
  • Review and recommend new or enhanced metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
  • Contribute to the improvement of metallurgical processes.
  • Evaluate and administer vendor contracts for services and equipment.
  • Provide guidance to site management on applicable programs, practices, and regulations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support safe work practices and identify occupational hazards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related engineering discipline and three years of experience in metallurgy or a related scientific field; or
  • Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, or a related engineering discipline and two years of related experience in metallurgy or a related scientific field.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analyses.
  • Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam.
  • Candidates must pass all required training and testing.
  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shift work, in a 24/7 operation.
  • Pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing may be required, as allowed by applicable laws.
