Job Summary
Equinox Gold is seeking a Sr. Mine Engineer to support engineering, mine planning, survey functions, and operational execution at the Mesquite mine.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, this role helps lead and support engineering and survey teams, drives development and planning activities, and serves as a key link between long-term and short-term mine planning functions. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Key Responsibilities
- Support health and safety goals, emergency response responsibilities, and company safety procedures
- Respond to safety concerns, unsafe conditions, and corrective action needs
- Support environmental goals and responsibilities under the Environmental Management System
- Help prevent or mitigate pollution impacts from department activities
- Follow company standards for spill reporting and response
- Use planning software for mine design, mine planning, dump design, and leach pad design
- Use planning software to estimate economic pit shells for design and reserve/resource reporting
- Identify planning and operational constraints during the business planning cycle
- Create, review, and evaluate life-of-mine plans during annual business planning
- Review yearly cost variances during the business planning cycle
- Lead engineering projects related to the mine and company operations
- Review and report end-of-month production statistics and reconcile actual versus budget variations
- Assist with daily reporting and production communication to ensure mine plans are being followed
- Mentor junior engineers and support engineering team development
- Stay current with mine design software trends and integrate improvements into work methods
- Maintain effective communication between departments
- Apply block model coding knowledge to support model manipulation for engineering variables
- Assist with reclamation planning as needed
- Manage spending within approved budgets and maintain effective information exchange with relevant departments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or relevant experience
- 7+ years of mining experience required
- Experience in conventional truck/shovel open pit operations preferred
- Working knowledge of MinePlan preferred
- Working knowledge of survey equipment
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems
- Ability to prepare accurate records and reports
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external contacts
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
