Job Summary
Donlin Gold LLC is seeking a Geology Technician to support core facility and exploration operations at one of the world’s largest undeveloped gold deposits in Western Alaska.
This role supports drill core handling, geological data collection, sample preparation, core cutting, and core storage activities while working closely with geologists and exploration personnel in a remote field environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive drill core from active drilling programs and transport materials to designated processing and logging facilities
- Assist with unloading, organizing, and staging drill core for geological processing
- Ensure proper handling and preservation of geological materials and samples
- Maintain organization and inventory of core boxes and materials
- Clean and prepare drill core for geological logging and evaluation
- Verify drill core box labeling and ensure data consistency and accuracy
- Collect and record geological measurements, including rock quality designation and core recovery information
- Photograph core boxes according to established procedures
- Support geological data collection and documentation efforts
- Assist with core cutting, sample preparation, labeling, and packaging
- Coordinate sample shipments and maintain sample tracking documentation
- Support organization and maintenance of long-term core storage facilities
- Assist with field operations and additional exploration activities as needed
- Maintain compliance with company safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures
- Participate in safety meetings and field-level risk assessments
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in a remote field environment
- Previous mining, exploration, geology, or field operations experience preferred
- Experience operating equipment such as skid steers, telehandlers, or utility vehicles preferred
- Experience working in a remote camp environment preferred
- Basic understanding of geological terminology and sampling procedures preferred
- Current authorization to work in the United States required
Physical Requirements
- Work on a rotational schedule at a remote Alaska work site
- Work in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment and drilling operations
- Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
- Climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds
- Pass a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and criminal background clearance
