Job Summary
Asarco is seeking a Chief Geologist to lead all geological activities, ore control, and resource integration at the Mission Complex.

This role serves as the top geological authority on site, ensuring accurate geological interpretation, grade control, and integration with mine planning and metallurgical performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise geology and ore control teams, ensuring high performance and technical standards
  • Oversee geological mapping, sampling, logging, and data collection for ore control
  • Manage grade control processes including blasthole sampling, QA/QC, and dig polygon generation
  • Maintain and update 3D geological models using Leapfrog and integrated datasets
  • Lead grade reconciliation (daily, weekly, monthly) and optimize geological parameters
  • Coordinate drilling programs (infill, exploration, metallurgical, condemnation)
  • Integrate geological data with mine planning and resource models
  • Collaborate with metallurgy on geometallurgical domains and Mine-to-Mill strategies
  • Support geotechnical and hydrogeological modeling through structural interpretation
  • Ensure compliance with SEC SK-1300 and technical reporting standards
  • Manage geological databases, data governance, and reporting systems
  • Oversee contractor performance, budgets, and project execution
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering (M.S. preferred)
– 8+ years of experience in open-pit mine geology

Additional Experience May Include

  • 10+ years of experience with leadership responsibilities
  • Expertise in porphyry copper systems and geometallurgy
  • Proficiency in Leapfrog Geo, MinePlan, acQuire, and GIS tools
  • Experience in QA/QC programs, resource classification, and compliance reporting
