Job Summary
Asarco is seeking a Mine Geologist to support ore control, geological interpretation, and production optimization at the Mission Mine.

This role is critical to ensuring accurate ore/waste classification, supporting Mine-to-Mill performance, and integrating geology with operations, planning, and metallurgy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct pit mapping, geological logging, and sampling (lithology, structure, alteration, mineralization)
  • Define and update ore control polygons and ore/waste boundaries
  • Support Mine-to-Mill optimization through geological insights on fragmentation and processing performance
  • Collaborate with metallurgy to optimize geometallurgical parameters
  • Provide input to shovel placement and short-range mine plans
  • Update and maintain 3D geological models (Leapfrog Geo or similar)
  • Perform grade reconciliation (F1–F3) and refine geological interpretations
  • Ensure QA/QC of sampling, lab performance, and data integrity
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to align geological guidance with production
  • Present findings in production and planning meetings
  • Ensure compliance with safety and reporting standards (SEC SK-1300 as applicable)

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field
– 2+ years of open-pit mine geology experience

Additional Experience May Include

  • Experience in porphyry copper systems
  • Knowledge of ore control and Mine-to-Mill concepts
  • Proficiency with geological and mining software (Leapfrog, MinePlan, Vulcan)
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
