Job Summary
Komatsu is seeking a Senior Technical Information Specialist to create and revise operation, maintenance, and repair instructions for Komatsu equipment. This role supports technical documentation, XML content development, illustration creation, technical information systems, GenAI solution deployment, project management, and knowledge transfer for technical communication teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Research engineering drawings, blueprints, electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic schematics, manufacturing procedures, industry standards, and internal or external documents.
- Interview engineers, service technicians, tradespeople, assemblers, third-party manufacturers, and suppliers to gather technical information.
- Attend equipment kick-off meetings and gather information related to equipment operation, installation, removal, assembly, disassembly, maintenance, adjustments, repairs, and lubrication.
- Create XML content independently using supplied maps, annotated topic lists, and established guidelines.
- Create, manipulate, and revise photos, 2D and 3D engineering CAD data, and illustrations using Adobe Creative Cloud and lightweight CAD tools.
- Coordinate with outsourced support for overflow work and illustration support.
- Apply expert-level knowledge of DITA XML, XML editors, terminology tools, STE Manager, and CCMS systems.
- Perform code-level reviews of XML content created by other team members.
- Create and deploy GenAI solutions for technical communications.
- Manage technical information projects accurately and on time.
- Edit content to ensure format, spelling, and style align with published standards.
- Work with subject matter experts to ensure information supports field service teams and end customers.
- Provide system administrative support for related technical communication programs.
- Lead or support department and company goals through root cause analysis and completed solutions.
- Teach, mentor, and supervise fully qualified and associate technical information positions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical Communications, or related work or military experience.
- Five or more years of related experience in technical communications.
- Experience in a technical role related to engineering, manufacturing, service technician work, or factory technical advisor roles.
- Ability to train others and lead projects.
- Project management experience related to core responsibilities and goals.
- Basic technical communication system administration knowledge and understanding.
- Strong problem-solving and system knowledge.
- Ability to build rapport, maintain positive relationships, collaborate across functions, and train others.
- Commitment to staying updated with technology and technical communication best practices.
- Technical aptitude or ability to learn Komatsu machine systems and technical content.
- Leadership and mentoring skills.
- Ability to comprehend technical documents and data.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to follow process protocols and apply established standards in a timely manner.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, ambiguity, deadlines, and heavy workloads.
- Ability to travel approximately 5% to 10% to examine equipment in the field, conduct Gemba with customers or distributors, attend training, or participate in meetings.

- Must be able to inspect sites and work areas to detect safety concerns.
- Must be able to manage stress and mental fatigue from heavy workloads, competing priorities, ambiguity, and tight deadlines.
