Job Summary
Asarco is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer – Mine Planning to lead short-term and long-term mine planning activities for the Mission Complex.

This role is responsible for developing mine plans, optimizing operations, and ensuring alignment between planning, production, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee daily and weekly mine plans including drill & blast, haulage, and plant feed blending
  • Monitor and reconcile operational performance against plans and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with mining, drilling, metallurgy, and operations teams to ensure plan execution
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts including tonnage, grade, and stripping ratios
  • Optimize pit sequencing, haulage routes, and waste management strategies
  • Update and maintain life-of-mine (LOM) plans based on evolving models and economic parameters
  • Conduct pit optimization studies using industry-standard software
  • Identify and implement operational improvements for productivity and cost efficiency
  • Collaborate with geotechnical teams on slope stability and dump design
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen/LEAN)
  • Mentor and support junior engineers

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
– 5+ years of experience in open-pit mining engineering with LOM planning experience

Additional Experience May Include

  • Proficiency in MineSight/Hexagon and mine planning tools (MPSO, haulage, pit optimization)
  • Experience with fleet management systems and data tools (SQL, Python, Power BI)
  • Strong knowledge of mine scheduling and cost optimization
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and safety standards
