Job Summary
AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical design, analysis, and risk management for open-pit mining operations and infrastructure.

This role ensures safe and efficient slope design, waste dump stability, and integration of geotechnical inputs into mine planning and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical design for pit slopes, waste dumps, leach pads, and mine infrastructure
  • Identify and manage geotechnical risks to ensure safe operations
  • Define geotechnical parameters and integrate them into mine planning and scheduling
  • Lead geotechnical test work programs, including sampling and QA/QC
  • Analyze geotechnical data to develop engineering design criteria
  • Conduct trade-off studies for design and planning scenarios
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations for mine development
  • Manage geotechnical data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Drive continuous improvement in geotechnical practices and methodologies
  • Collaborate with geology, mine planning, hydrology, and operations teams
  • Communicate technical risks and recommendations to leadership

Qualifications
– Degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
– 7+ years of geotechnical experience in mining

Additional Experience May Include

  • Experience in open-pit mining and infrastructure design
  • Knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrology
  • Experience with Rocscience, Unwedge, Vulcan, or Deswik
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience leading technical teams or projects
