Job Summary
Alcoa is seeking a Casthouse Scrap Supervisor to lead scrap management operations at its Massena, New York facility.

This role is responsible for overseeing scrap, dross, and off-grade material management across casthouse operations, with a focus on safety, inventory accuracy, material utilization, cost control, production alignment, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to hourly employees across billet, rod, sow, scrap, and dross operations
  • Lead safety initiatives including incident investigations, Human Performance Toolbox meetings, SSOP compliance, and housekeeping standards
  • Oversee administrative and operational aspects of the shipping function
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce pack/load SSOPs for billet, rod, sow, scrap, and dross
  • Manage scrap tub quality, including repair, replacement, and disposal
  • Monitor consumption, generation, receipts, and inventory levels to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Audit material levels and adjust plans while ensuring materials are properly identified by alloy and weight
  • Plan and coordinate pre-staging of scrap for furnace consumption, including out-of-spec materials
  • Develop and maintain storage layouts, signage, and defined storage lanes
  • Manage relationships and material flow with internal and external suppliers
  • Develop trigger points for commercial metal procurement aligned with production demands and inventory optimization
  • Coordinate with Production Control and Ingot Supervisors to align alloy scheduling and scrap consumption
  • Collaborate with Knoxville Metal Reclamation to increase scrap utilization
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize material usage and reduce operating costs
  • Train supervisors and operators on charge calculation techniques
  • Manage dross segregation, sales, returned material approvals, and consumption of resultant RSI

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution required
  • Experience with inventory control and process improvement in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • 1-2 years of experience as a supervisor or team lead
  • Understanding of casthouse facilities, materials, casting processes, and operations preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, achieve results, and drive change
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools and collaboration platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and on an on-call basis during emergencies
  • Commitment to modeling safety values and championing a safety-first culture

Physical Requirements

  • Routine presence in production areas within an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Potential exposure to noise, extreme heat or cold, and industrial equipment
  • Occasional schedule flexibility required to support operational priorities
