Job Summary
AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Director, Tailings to provide global technical leadership and strategic direction for tailings storage facility (TSF) management.

This role ensures the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while driving innovation and long-term stewardship across global mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead global tailings governance, strategy, and technical standards across operations
  • Provide expert guidance on TSF design, deposition, capacity, and closure planning
  • Support Life-of-Mine (LOM) planning for tailings strategy and infrastructure
  • Monitor compliance and performance of tailings facilities across sites
  • Support M&A due diligence and project stage-gate technical reviews
  • Collaborate with Engineers of Record (EOR), review boards, and external partners
  • Identify and implement innovations in tailings and geotechnical engineering
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with operations, projects, and digital teams
  • Lead incident investigations and reinforce safety-first culture
  • Support talent development, succession planning, and mentoring of tailings professionals

Qualifications
– Degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
– 15+ years of experience in tailings, geotechnical, or mining engineering

Additional Experience May Include

  • Expertise in TSF design, hydrology, and geotechnical engineering
  • Experience in global mining operations and governance frameworks
  • Strong project management and business planning skills
  • Experience supporting M&A and large-scale mining projects
  • Strong stakeholder and regulatory engagement capabilities
