Job Summary
South32 is seeking an Engineer – Process Control (Metallurgy) to support the development, design, and implementation of process control systems for the Hermosa Project.

This role focuses on optimizing plant performance through advanced control systems, automation, and process control strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain process control systems (DCS, PLC, HMI)
  • Optimize control loops and process control strategies for plant performance
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and control system issues
  • Review engineering documentation and ensure alignment with process design
  • Support plant commissioning and startup activities
  • Develop and maintain control system documentation (P&IDs, control narratives)
  • Monitor KPIs and improve system efficiency and reliability
  • Implement alarm management systems and control strategies
  • Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams
  • Provide training and support to operations and maintenance teams

Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering

  • 7+ years of experience in mining or processing plant environments
  • 5+ years of experience in process control engineering
  • Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems
  • Experience with control systems from vendors such as ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, or Rockwell
  • Knowledge of industrial standards (ISA, IEC, OSHA, MSHA)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Additional Experience May Include

  • Experience with Advanced Process Control (APC) tools
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP)
  • Experience with control system migrations
  • Automation and data analysis experience
